IFS participated in the renovation of the IBEW Local 1 Hall in St. Louis MO.  Our scope of work for this project included equipment, labor, and materials to replace HVAC systems.
After careful consideration, it was determined that utilizing packaged roof mounted units (RTU’s) to replace existing spilt style units offer features and benefits beyond the capabilities of existing spilt equipment. These benefits include:

  • Packaged RTU’s are engineered and tested to performance standards and specifications.
  • Utilizing RTU’s eliminates problematic piping between components providing more reliable service with far less chance of refrigerant related breakdowns.
  • RTU’s have a single point power connection – helping to control installation costs.
  • RTU’s offer gas heating, and hot gas reheat – both providing greater means of temperature control, comfort, and energy savings
  • Utilizing RTU’s will free up space in mechanical room where old equipment was located, that can now be used for storage or other means as desired.

The RTU indicated for the main hall area replacing the old split system will incorporate features such as a variable frequency drive (VFD) and hot gas reheat – both features provide greater control and energy savings along with improved comfort as the space demands.

The lower level office RTU will be coupled with a variable air volume (VAV) system providing each zone with independent temperate control. Three options for this VAV system were offered – VAV with electric reheat coils, second VAV with hot water coils, and fan terminal units (FTU’s) with hot water coils. The FTU option was chosen by the IBEW for its benefits. This option provides greater air circulation for lower level humidity control and comfort, along with greater efficiency in heating mode. A heating water boiler and associated hot water piping was included for options using hot water coils.

The estimated total annual savings on this project is over $20,000.00!
